If you are new to Chiropractic and have not experienced an adjustment before, you probably do not know exactly what to expect during and after your appointment. This short guide will help you be prepared for your first Chiropractic adjustment in our office.
Before the Spinal Adjustment
A thorough examination will be performed by the doctor covering your medical history, chief complaint, functional goals, and imaging (MRI, X-ray, CT-scan) if necessary in order to have a clear diagnosis of your problem areas. This is an important first step so that we know what areas need to be treated and how.
During the Adjustment
The adjustment itself might not be the same every time you get one. There are different types of adjustments that are used depending on your specific condition and the area needing treatment.
- Instrument adjusting: Specific low force treatment for neck, mid back, lower back, and extremities
- Manual joint manipulation: Specific hands-on treatment for neck, mid back, lower back, and extremities, quick controlled motions with force
- Low force manipulation: Less pressure, used with children, elderly, and disabled adults.
After Treatment
You may feel more relaxed and improved flexibility shortly after treatment. Some patients report increased mobility the day of treatment with a decrease in pain. It is possible to feel a muscle soreness similar to how you would feel after working out. You should avoid strenuous activity for the remainder of the day so that your treatment lasts and settles in.
